154 - Autumn in Nevada
Most photographers don’t know that Nevada has some great autumn color. This year I stayed closer to home to photograph fall foliage. There are three locations, spread across the state of Nevada, that are above 7,000 feet elevation (where aspens thrive). These spots are easy to reach without a 4x4. In northeastern Nevada is Lamoille Canyon with aspen groves that paint steep canyon walls yellow in late September. On the high desert, close to the Utah border, is Mount Wheeler in Great Basin National Park–Nevada’s only National Park with more autumn color. Just a few miles northwest of Las Vegas is the Mt. Charleston Wilderness where you will find winter skiing and much more autumn color. This autumn color issue also includes some back roads to a variety of places you probably have not photographed yet.
