Many of my favorite desert landscapes are in Sedona, Arizona. Deep canyons, ancient Indian ruins, natural stone arches, miles of hiking trails that lead to panoramic vistas, and Oak Creek, a year round stream that cascades through a forest rivaling America’s best autumn-color landscapes.

Many of my favorite desert landscapes are in Sedona, Arizona. Deep canyons, ancient Indian ruins, natural stone arches, miles of hiking trails that lead to panoramic vistas, and Oak Creek, a year-round stream that cascades through a forest rivaling America's best autumn-color landscapes. Sedona's seasons change more dramatically than most other Southwestern destinations.

Sedona is a wonderful place to visit in mid-winter when all the red rock spires and mesas are topped with a dusting of snow. The village of Sedona is surrounded by red buttes, deep canyons, and beautiful streams. This newsletter has a map that points out the best day-hikes for photographers looking for images of desert wilderness.
